Volunteers Needed for Project Sunshine's 7th Annual Benefit Celebration!!

Mandatory Training - Tuesday, April 27th

Project Sunshine is looking for energetic, punctual, friendly volunteers to assist with our 7th Annual Benefit Celebration.

5:30pm to 9:30pm: Volunteers will help with registration, live auction, "rays of sunshine" fundraiser, and various other tasks.

Volunteer training on April 27th is mandatory. Please reserve your training spot by responding to Caitlin@projectsunshine.org.

Project Sunshine Mission:

Project Sunshine is a nonprofit organization that provides free educational, recreational, and social programs to children facing medical challenges and their families.

Why Project Sunshine:
Use personal creativity to help with program materials and deliver programs. Working onsite, our volunteers relieve the anxiety of the young patients and in a context of fun and play, foster in them the courage and coping skills necessary to confront procedures that lie ahead.

Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Volunteer Directly with children in the hospital. Working onsite, our volunteers relieve the anxiety of the young patients and in a context of fun and play, foster in them the courage and coping skills necessary to confront procedures that lie ahead.
  • Help make Craft Kits, Sew Surgi-Dolls, Create "Sunny Grams" and hand deliver to local hospitals
  • Host fundraisers and collection drives (for books, toys, and arts & crafts supplies. Promote within chapter
  • Put Together Toiletry kits for parents when they are at the hospital (shampoo, toothpaste, lotion, razors, etc)

Note: Volunteers are introduced and trained at the Project Sunshine office on 39th Street in the evenings. A training session can be scheduled.

Why God's Love We Deliver?
Local to NYC, well known, in existence since 1985 - going on its third decade of service. Over 90% of the people they serve are people at or below poverty level within our region. They offer comfort, nutrition and hope to individuals with debilitating illnesses that can rob them of hope and make them feel isolated and alone. People of all ages are assisted (the elderly, children and adults)

Nearly all $ go to the clients with an 18 to 1 volunteer to staff ratio.
2008 government funding was significantly reduced and they depend even more on individual and corporate contributions. In 2007, their expenses exceeded donations by $50,000.00.

Clients by diagnosis:
54% HIV/Aids, 16% Cancer, 13% Other, 7% MS, 6% Alzheimers and 4 % Renal Diseases
Clients by age:

28% (50-59 years old), 23% (40-49 years old), 15% (70+ years old), 14% (60-69 years old), 12% (0-19 years old), 8% (20-39 years old)

GLWD Mission:
To improve the health and well-being of men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-altering illnesses by alleviating hunger and malnutrition. They prepare and deliver nutritious, high-quality meals to people who, because of their illness, are unable to provide or prepare meals for themselves.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Volunteer as a group or individual to prepare meals in the SoHo kitchen
Training is conducted on the same day, with an 8 minute DVD followed by kitchen safety tips. Volunteer to assist van drivers or neighborhood centers to deliver food and meet the recipients.
